According to the statistics of the world pesticide industry association, the proportion of EC in the world's pesticide preparations is very large, and the organic solvent in the environment is more than 1 million tons per year. In one hand, these non-pesticide active substances increase the cost of pesticide preparation, which consumes about billions of dollars every year in the world; on the other hand, a large number of organic solvents cause great damage to the environment. China is the second largest pesticide producer in the world, producing 900000~1 million tons of pesticide preparations every year. China's water-based formulations account for a small proportion of the total preparations. Compared with other major producers of pesticides, the structure of pesticide formulations in China is facing severe challenges, and the demand for new water-based formulations is also more urgent. In this context, water-based preparations, such as suspensions, microemulsions, water emulsions, and water-based agents, are widely concerned, and their development technology has become a hot spot. Related basic theoretical research, such as surfactant technology, nanoparticle technology, laser particle size and streaming potential detection technology, grinding technology and fluid mechanics, have also gradually extended to the field of pesticide, providing a necessary means and theoretical basis for further research on Suspension Concentration.

Dry Flowable (referred to as DF) is a solid particulate product obtained directly from pesticide by wet grinding and then spray dried and granulated to remove moisture. China's pesticide registration department uses the name of WG (water dispersible granule) instead of DF to register WG and DF. According to the different production processes, WG is divided into dry process and wet process. DF is water dispersible granule produced by wet process. Due to the process, some DW is registered as water dispersing granule, while some DW is registered as dry suspending agent, which puzzles the users. In fact, there are obvious differences between dry WG and wet WG (i.e. DF) in appearance, and their water entry performance is also different, so it is not difficult to distinguish them.

1.   What is Seed Treatment agent

Seed Treatment agent is made of insecticide, fungicide, micronutrient fertilizer, plant growth regulator, film-forming agent, antifreeze and other auxiliaries. It not only plays a specific role in preventing and controlling underground pests, soil borne and seed borne diseases, improving seed germination rate, promoting healthy growth of crops, improving crop yields and improving crop quality, but also saving, saving labor and improving economic and ecological benefits. Seed treatment was gradually developed from the beginning of the chemical soaking and seed dressing to the seed dressing method. "Seed Treatment agent coating technology" also developed from early "pest control" to "improving seed quality, increasing seed vigor, promoting seed germination and early seedling growth" and so on. At present, seed treatment is one of the most important, effective, convenient and economical means of plant protection. It is an important trend of plant protection in the future.

2.   Classification of Seed Treatment agents

Seed Treatment agent has the characteristics of high efficiency, economy, safety, long duration and versatile effect. It is developed on the basis of suspending agent, powder and wettable powder. It has liquid and solid powder. Some are prefabricated and stored for a long time, and some are ready for use now. According to the application range, Seed Treatment agents can be divided into general and special types. The universal type can be used for Seed Treatment of many crops, while the special coating agents can only be used for Seed Treatment of single crops, such as cotton, corn, wheat, soybean and other special Seed Treatment agents. If the wrong crops are used for special purposes, they may cause phytotoxicity or cause a decrease in effectiveness.

                             Classification by form

Dry powder Seed Treatment agent: the active and non-active ingredients are crushed and mixed by air flow dry method, and seed dressing is used for coating.

Suspension Seed Treatment agent: a suspension dispersion system which combines active ingredients and some non active components after wet grinding and mixed with other components, is coated by atomization. This kind of Seed Treatment agent is the main type.

Colloidal suspension type Seed Treatment agent: a colloidal suspension and dispersion system, which is formed by mixing the active ingredients with the inactive ingredients after dissolving them with appropriate solvents and auxiliaries.

                      Classification by use

Physical type: it contains many filling materials and adhesives but does not contain chemical active ingredients. It is mainly used for coating small seed pellets such as rape, tobacco and vegetables.

Chemical type: containing pesticides, fertilizers, hormones and other chemical active substances, with comprehensive efficacy, but relatively prone to drug damage. This kind of Seed Treatment agent is the mainstream type and is also one of the main developing directions of film Seed Treatment agent in the future.

Biotype: contains microorganisms or secretions that are effective for crops.

Special type: including Seed Treatment agent with special use such as water storage and drought resistance, oxygen escape, weeding, pH adjustment, etc.

Comprehensive type: it is a comprehensive application of the effective components of the above four kinds of coating agents.

                      Classification by usage time

In situ coating agent: the seeds shall be coated with such coating agent several hours or days before sowing, and shall be sown immediately after the coating film solidifies, and the coated seeds shall not be stored.

Prepackaged Seed Treatment agents: seeds can be sowed at any time after being coated with this Seed Treatment agent and can be stored for a certain time to sow seeds.

Classification by pesticide processing dosage form

      According to this method, Seed Treatment agents can be divided into five dosage forms: FS, EWS, SES, DFS and CS.

3.   Function and characteristics of Seed Treatment agent

4)       Easy to sow seeds. The seeds are smooth after coating treatment, which is conducive to mechanical seeding. At the same time, coating agents can regulate the size of seed particles and improve the efficiency of mechanical seeding.
